Hunde in der Island of Hopre von HAR
Hunde in der Island of Hope

Straßenhunde in Rumänien

Our shelter at Buftea, in the near of the capital Bucharest, belongs to the miserable and the desperate – the „underdogs“ in the words worst meaning.

Primarily we came here to minimize the number of streetdogs and –cats by neuterings and we wanted to care for them and give them medical treatment, until we found new homes for them. We didn’t sense, that we opened a barrage, we didn’t know how big the affliction of the abandoned animals is in reality, although we could have known it.

But we didn’t imagine how many animals we would find, which were injured and mutilated on purpose; and as well we did not imagine, that puppies are thrown over the fence almost daily.

And we couldn’t imagine how much hunger and fear we would see, when we leave the shelter...

We do not own the premises and the buildings. We have have to pay a high monthly rent, as it is a false conclusion, that everything is cheaper here, neither veterinarians nor medicine costs are less and the food for our animals is cheaper in Germany.

Nevertheless we stay here and we do everything we can for the animals in this region and for the more than 350 dogs and cats, which are living in our shelter, which is the only thing that stands between them and their misery

HAR is financed by donations, sponsorships and members, only. Every donation is most welcome: Food, medical material – and of course money, too.

We ask for sponsorships of different kinds: one-time for neuterings and departures; for medical emergencies; longer-term for the old dogs; and for those, which find no home of their own or havent’t found one yet and which can’t go back to the street – the ones which are here, since they were puppies, the sick ones and the injured ones, the mothers with their new-born babies.

They only have us. Maybe they have you, too?
